SSE Clyde (Dumfries and Galloway)

Community Fund

Background

This is a charitable fund provided by SSE, the owner of the Clyde Wind Farm to benefit local communities. The Fund will benefit the 12 Community Council areas of Carronbridge, Durisdeer Johnstone, Kirkconnel and Kelloholm, Kirkmichael, Kirkpatrick Juxta, Moffat and District, Closeburn, Royal Burgh of Sanquhar & District, Thornhill, Wamphray and Wanlockhead. It will be in place for the operating life of the wind farm which is expected to be 25 years.

The Fund is managed by Foundation Scotland.  Decisions on awards will be made by a local Community Panel made up of representatives from each of the 12 communities.

The fund is approximately £155,000 annually; with each community allocated a 1/12th share.  However the amounts available for distribution vary, depending on each area's previous funding commitments.  Some areas have already allocated their funds and therefore no longer have funds available for grant-making.

For the current round the 12 communities have the following available.

Area Amount Area Amount
Carronbridge £41,312 Kirkpartick Juxta (Beattock) £38,595
Closeburn £9,854 Moffat £27,870
Durisdeer £24,031 Royal Burgh of Sanquhar £12,718
Johnstone £42,581 Thornhill £14,446
Kirkconnel & Kelloholm £16,075 Wamphray £36,393
Kirkmichael £78,183 Wanlockhead £20,312

Groups and organisations working to benefit people in the 12 communities can apply to the Fund.  Your group must have a constitution (a governing document or set of rules) and be set up on a not-for-profit basis.  It does not need a registered charity to apply.
