SSE Clyde (Dumfries and Galloway)

Community Fund

Background

This is a charitable fund provided by SSE, the owner of the Clyde Wind Farm to benefit local communities. The Fund will benefit the 12 Community Council areas of Carronbridge, Durisdeer Johnstone, Kirkconnel and Kelloholm, Kirkmichael, Kirkpatrick Juxta, Moffat and District, Closeburn, Royal Burgh of Sanquhar & District, Thornhill, Wamphray and Wanlockhead. It will be in place for the operating life of the wind farm which is expected to be 25 years.

The Fund is managed by Foundation Scotland.  Decisions on awards will be made by a local Community Panel made up of representatives from each of the 12 communities.

The fund is approximately £170,000 annually; with each community allocated a 1/12th share.  However the amounts available for distribution vary, depending on each area's previous funding commitments.  Some areas have already allocated their funds and therefore no longer have funds available for grant-making.

For the current round the 12 communities have the following available.

Area Amount Area Amount
Carronbridge £56,069 Kirkpartick Juxta (Beattock) £32,068
Closeburn £8,864 Moffat £11,321
Durisdeer £38,745 Royal Burgh of Sanquhar £18,472
Johnstone £19,314 Thornhill £27,552
Kirkconnel & Kelloholm £15,505 Wamphray £50,258
Kirkmichael £76,530 Wanlockhead £24,937

Groups and organisations working to benefit people in the 12 communities can apply to the Fund.  Your group must have a constitution (a governing document or set of rules) and be set up on a not-for-profit basis.  It does not need a registered charity to apply.
