About this fund

The David and Averil Macdonald fund was set up to support charitable activity supporting communities in Islay, Tain, Elgin and Livingston. 

Purpose of this fund

The David and Averil Macdonald fund aim to support charitable activity in the areas listed above.  

Within these areas, the programme is looking to address a real community need. There is primarily a focus on projects for young people which increase opportunity and available support, although work addressing wider issues in the community such as poverty or isolation may also be considered.

Grants will be awarded to projects in the geographical areas of focus and that meet the programme aims and which have the capacity to make a real difference to the community. Applicants should be able to explain this clearly.

Grant sizes for this fund vary, so you will need to get in touch before applying to discuss the level of funding you need.

Please note that the fund will typically only make a small number of large awards each year and that new applicants are encouraged to apply for smaller awards (i.e. under £5,000) in the first instance.

  • My group have had an award from this fund before, can we re-apply?

    Your group can re-apply if you have had funding before. However, the fund will not award multiple concurrent grants to the same group, so you should make sure you have come to the end of any existing award before re-applying. 

  • My group delivers work elsewhere in Scotland, can we apply?

    The fund will typically only consider work that supports the communities of Tain, Islay, Elgin, and Livingston. Please get in touch to discuss your project is you're not sure. 

  • How much should I apply for?

    The fund will offer a range of grant sizes. However, new applicants are generally advised to apply for smaller awards in the first instance (under £5,000). Please get in touch to discuss your project if you're not sure.
