The Nadara Glenkerie Community Fund has awarded £36,300 to six local groups across the Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire.

The latest round of grantmaking from the Nadra Glenkerie Community Fund will support community groups, conservation projects and emergency volunteers across Upper Tweed, Tweedsmuir and the wider Biggar area.  The Fund has distributed over £75,500 in community funding this year.

The largest award was made to Upper Tweed Community Drivers, providing £10,000 to support volunteer driver costs over the next three years. Funding will also contribute towards training and administration, helping ensure rural residents can continue to access vital health, care and wellbeing appointments.

The Borders Forest Trust received £9,200 towards a 12-month volunteer programme, infrastructure improvements and conservation activities designed to support habitat recovery and biodiversity at Talla and Gameshope Valley.

“This funding from the Glenkerie Community Fund will make a real difference to our work at Talla and Gameshope Valley. It will help us keep our volunteer programme running over the next year, while also supporting infrastructure improvements that let us continue restoring natural habitats. We're grateful for support that recognises the value of biodiversity and that helps us bring more people outdoors and into our volunteering community.”

Braw Clan received £6,000 towards a series of quarterly Tea & Tale events taking place in early 2027.  Sessions will provide free storytelling and refreshments for rural residents at the Wee Crook in Tweedsmuir.

Moffat Mountain Rescue Team received £5,000 to support volunteers to undertake accredited rope rescue training, strengthening the safety and resilience of the 24/7 emergency response the team provides to the community.

Tweedsmuir Community Company received £3,465 to install specialist fencing to protect a newly planted native hedge in the Community Garden at the Crook Inn, helping to enhance biodiversity and create a sustainable wildlife habitat.  And Biggar and District Men's Shed received £2,640 to purchase new equipment, enabling the group to continue its woodworking activities for local residents.

Since the Nadra Glenkerie Community Fund was established in 2014, over £1million has been distributed to local communities. From supporting essential rural transport and emergency rescue services to creating opportunities for people to come together, the funding is helping community organisations and volunteers deliver valuable services and activities across the area.
