A £1 million grant from the Old Luce Community Fund is set to transform healthcare provision in Glenluce, funding the construction of a brand-new GP surgery for local residents. The project is being delivered by the Old Luce Development Trust, a community-led organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for people across the Old Luce Parish.

Construction of the new surgery began in February 2026, with the demolition of the attached house. It is expected that construction of the new surgery building will be completed in 2027. The project has been a long-standing priority for the community, following the buyout of the existing building in 2021. The need for a modern, purpose-built facility was reaffirmed in the 2025 local Community Action Plan.

The investment represents one of the most significant steps forward for local services in the area in recent years, providing long-term certainty for residents, supporting local businesses, and helping to sustain the wider community.

Ian Paterson, Chair of Old Luce Community Council, said:

"This is a proud moment for our community. This project wouldn’t be possible without the support provided from the windfarm developers to the Old Luce Community Council. By working together, a modern GP surgery will be secured for local residents.”

The Old Luce Community Fund is financed through contributions from Barlockhart Moor Wind Energy Ltd, Carscreugh Renewable Energy Park Ltd, Glenchamber Wind Energy Ltd, SSE, 2020 Renewables, Greencoat, and ScottishPower Renewables, with funds directed towards projects that benefit the local community. The fund is administered by Foundation Scotland.
