Honouring loved ones through a 'quiet' legacy of kindness
When Grace was reviewing her financial affairs with her investment manager, she considered the possibility of making a gift to charity.
On her manager’s suggestion, Grace reached out to Foundation Scotland to discuss our charitable fund services.
After an exploratory meeting, Grace decided to create a charitable fund in memory of her parents. The fund was established to support charitable organisations and grassroots groups across Scotland, giving Foundation Scotland the flexibility to respond to changing needs over time. By leaving a gift in her will, Grace ensured the fund will continue to grow and support communities into the future.
Through small grants, the fund has supported a variety of projects and helped organisations that had missed out on other funding. To date, it has awarded almost £15,000 in grants, with over £60,000 now in the invested fund. In recent years, it has supported grassroots organisations in Glasgow, Aberdeenshire, and the Highlands. Projects have included youth music sessions, indoor sports opportunities for older adults, and improvements to community sports facilities.
Awards so far in 2025…
• £1,230 to support venue, workshop, outreach, and trip delivery costs for an integration programme in Glasgow for overseas students and visiting families. The project aims to build confidence, strengthen community connections, and raise awareness of local support services through monthly welcome and orientation events, skills-for-living and employability workshops, cultural exchange evenings, Scottish heritage trips, and a buddy scheme with local volunteers.
• £3,580 to support staff costs for a drumming programme for 30 children (aged 5–12) experiencing disadvantage in Glasgow. The project aims to enhance wellbeing, social connections, and engagement in learning through weekly workshops.
In both cases, the fund provided a top-up to an existing award from Foundation Scotland, ensuring each project could go ahead.
