Dailly Bowling Club opens its doors to a warmer future
The Dailly Bowling Club has been awarded £9,000 of funding from the Hadyard Hill Community Fund towards the renovation of the club.
Dailly Bowling Club is at the heart of a community of around 900 residents. The club plays an important role locally, hosting league matches, social events, community gatherings and visits from local groups. The club currently has around 130 social members and 60 bowling members.
The club has enjoyed a successful start to its season following the major clubhouse upgrade, which was supported by a £9,000 grant from SSE Renewables Hadyard Hill Community Benefit Fund (Dailly).
Before the work took place, the ageing windows and doors were cracked, draughty and energy inefficient, making the building increasingly difficult and expensive to heat.
The funding enabled the replacement of four large single-glazed viewing windows and two front entrance doors at the club’s premises in the South Ayrshire village of Dailly.
A full replacement of the windows and entrance doors was completed in just one week, allowing activities to resume as normal the following weekend. The Hadyard Hill Community Fund Panel, who advise on grant awards, were keen to support the local economy, so work was carried out by a local Dailly-based family building and joinery business.
The improvement was immediately felt. Members noticed that the clubhouse was significantly warmer and more comfortable as soon as it reopened. Heating use has already been reduced, with the club expecting long-term savings on energy costs. Improved soundproofing has also transformed the space, and the new windows and doors have given the clubhouse a fresh appearance.
Club members hope the improvements will encourage new members to join, and create a positive impression to visiting teams from across South Ayrshire.
The club hosted a community open day to celebrate the upgrade being completed, which attracted around 64 attendees, including representatives from six local bowling clubs. Families, spectators and local residents gathered at the green throughout the day, showing community celebration and partnership.
The Hadyard Hill Community Fund (Dailly) is provided by SSE Renewables, and supports projects that contribute to the sustainability, regeneration and wellbeing of the Dailly community, including maintenance and improvements to community facilities, running costs, equipment costs, staff costs and activities.
