Local community groups receive boost from funding awards
Three local community groups and organisations have received funding support to enhance community facilities and cultural activities in the Glenkerie Fund area, which includes both the Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire Councils.
Three local community groups have received funding from the Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund.
The Trustees of Stobo Village Hall were awarded £1,994 to purchase and install an LED Smart TV, upgrading the hall's audiovisual capabilities for community events and educational activities. Recognising the equipment as a sound investment, the Panel awarded the full requested amount plus an additional £120 to cover remaining project costs.
The same trustees received a further £1,467 for their 'Stobo Sessions' project, which will replace damaged speakers and purchase microphone stands to ensure reliable monthly music sessions for young musicians.
The decision making panel for the fund - which is made up of residents who live in the area and who take an active interest in local issues and activities - praised this positive initiative for providing valuable opportunities to people in Stobo and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, Biggar Little Festival secured £1,500 towards venue hire for their annual arts festival planned for October 2025. The Panel recognised the festival's contribution to enhancing community life across the area.
These awards of just under £5,000 demonstrate how small targeted community funding can strengthen local infrastructure while supporting cultural activities that bring people together. From upgraded technology enabling better community events to nurturing young musical talent and celebrating the arts, the grants reflect the diverse ways communities can flourish with appropriate support.
The funding comes from community benefit resources, highlighting how local decision-making panels understand their communities' specific needs and priorities. Each project promises to create lasting value, whether through improved facilities, ongoing cultural programming, or annual celebration of local creativity.
