Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Fund passes £1 million milestone with latest round of community awards in Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire.

Four new grants to local community projects have marked a funding milestone for the Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Fund, bringing its total investment in local communities since 2014 to over £1 million.

Since the first award in 2014, a £2000 grant to Drumelzier Village Hall, the Fund has grown in ambition and impact. Major funding awards have included £50,000 to Upper Tweed Community Enterprise towards the capital costs of extending the Broughton Village Store, and the Fund’s largest single award of £62,500 to Tweedsmuir Development Company to contribute to the costs of the first phase of the Crook Inn Café and Community Hub. The scale and variety of the Fund's impact is also evident in the most recent awards round, where four projects across the Glenkerie area shared a total of £42,000.

A £19,000 grant has enabled Biggar Bowling Club to reach its £230,000 funding goal, meaning they can carry out a major refurbishment that will create a modern, accessible and environmentally sustainable community facility. The improvements will enhance community use and ensure the bowling club can continue to serve as a thriving hub for local residents.

Andrew Barrie from Biggar Bowling Club said:
"We are incredibly grateful to the Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund for this award. Securing the full funding has been a journey, and this grant proved to be a crucial step in making the project possible. The refurbishment will not only modernise the club but also ensure it remains a vibrant and inclusive space for the entire community to enjoy for generations to come.”

Biggar Little Festival received £10,000 to contribute to the cost of salaries for an Administrator, Social Media Manager, and First Aid Responders to support event delivery, promotion, and evaluation, enhancing community engagement and providing a platform for aspiring artists.

Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust has received £10,000 to support its volunteer transport service, providing free travel to cancer appointments for local residents. This is the third award the organisation has received from the fund, bringing its total to £25,000 over four years. Previous funding has already made a significant impact, with funding received across 2025 supporting around 50 patients, with those from Biggar and Symington alone travelling over 100,000 miles to attend treatment and care.

Tinto Village Day Committee received £3,000 to support the costs of the Village Day event, funding inflatable and marquee hire and ensuring that local people of all ages could come together to enjoy a free, accessible and inclusive community celebration.

The Fund is supported by independent charity Foundation Scotland, and decisions are made by a Panel of local residents, ensuring that funding stays rooted in the needs and priorities of the communities it serves.

The Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund demonstrates the profound difference that locally-led, community-focused funding can make, from keeping important services running and supporting grassroots events, to transforming facilities that will serve residents well into the future.

Erin Murchie, Community Relations Manager for Nadara Glenkerie Wind Farm Community Fund, said:
“Reaching £1 million in community investment is a landmark moment for the Fund, and one that reflects the incredible range of projects and organisations that local people have chosen to support over the years. From village events and cancer care transport to major capital projects, every award has been shaped by the priorities of the communities themselves. We are proud to support such a diverse and dedicated range of organisations, and look forward to seeing the difference this latest round of funding will make across the Glenkerie area.”

The next deadline for community organisations to apply for funding is 15th of July 2026.
