Successful community project development sessions in Heriot
To help the Heriot community identify ideas for projects that could make a difference to the local community, members of the local decision-making panel organised two open sessions for anyone interested in finding out more about funding was available and how funding could support local projects.
The sessions were run with support from SSE and Foundation Scotland, who administer the SSE Toddleburn and Carcant (Moorfoot) Wind Farm Community Benefits Funds.
The purpose of these sessions was to share ideas, discuss community activities, and explore projects that could potentially be delivered within the Heriot community.
The first meeting, held in June, was well attended by a diverse mix of local community members and representatives from various local groups. Participants engaged in collaborative discussions about individual projects and shared their aspirations for the community.
Through these conversations, the group developed a list of potential projects for community members to consider supporting and helping to advance. These projects included...

At our second meeting in September, members from the local decision-making panel, a representative from the village hall, SSE and Foundation Scotland came together to discuss what had emerged from the first session and explore the project ideas in more detail. We also looked at the potential for developing a Community Action Plan, which would help identify the wider community's priorities.
The group left the session with aspirations and plans to explore potential projects that will deliver community connection and support healthy living and overall wellbeing.
The two sessions have helped to inspire new community projects that will enhance the local community, and we look forward to seeing what projects will develop and flourish over the next year.
It's exciting to think about the positive impact these initiatives could have on bringing people together and improving life in Heriot for everyone.
