Co'path & Cove Community Fund continues to swing into action
Two groups have been awarded funding from the latest Co'path & Cove Community Fund round, helping to strengthen and improve the local area.
Duns PlayFest has been awarded £4,850 to support a spring cultural event to be held in Cockburnspath. Due to be held in spring 2026, the free evening event at Cockburnspath Village Hall will feature filmed highlights from DunsPlayFest25, live music, and an original production by a local drama company, with a light supper and licensed bar available for residents.
Meanwhile, Coldingham has received £5,000 to contribute towards the redevelopment of their village play park, providing safe, inclusive and accessible play equipment that will enhance physical activity, outdoor play and social connections for children up to 16 years and their families. The community decision making Panel appreciated that children and young people from the Cockburnspath & Cove community used and benefited from the playpark in Coldingham and wanted to provide a donation to support the project.
Spotlight: New Community Playground Opens in Cockburnspath & Cove
The village of Cockburnspath & Cove has officially completed its brand-new community playground, marking the successful completion of a grassroots fundraising effort that began in 2021. Further details about the project can be found here.
The £115,000 project transformed a deteriorating play park into a vibrant community hub designed by local young people through extensive community consultations and alignment with the local Community Action Plan.
The Cockburnspath Playground Association secured strong partnerships with Scottish Borders Council and funding from multiple sources, including £10,000 from the Drone Hill Wind Farm Community Fund, which acted as seed funding to unlock further funding for the project.
£25,000 was secured from Foresight Kinegar, which is part of a wider pooled Fund known as the Cockburnspath & Cove Community Fund.
The new playground serves as an important social hub in an area where access to organised activities can be limited, expected to serve approximately 100 local children while boosting footfall to the community-owned shop. The facility is now open and stands as a strong example of successful community-led development.
