Wind farm funding powers community action across East Berwickshire

Communities across East Berwickshire are to receive £39,000 in funding from the Drone Hill Wind Farm Community Fund. Awards will significantly benefit community spaces, youth opportunities and local connections.

The Drone Hill Fund, owned by Greencoat UK Wind and administered by Foundation Scotland, provides funding to benefit the communities of Reston and Auchencrow, Coldingham, Grantshouse, and Cockburnspath & Cove.

The Spring 2025 funding awards, decided by a panel of local residents, will tackle key priorities across the community council areas of Reston and Auchencrow, Coldingham, Grantshouse, and Cockburnspath & Cove, delivering improvements that matter most to the local community.

Community spaces will see significant enhancements with Reston Village Hall securing £11,000 for much-needed tables and chairs, creating a more accessible and welcoming environment for all. The Coldingham Gala's future looks brighter after receiving £11,500 to replace aging equipment, essential for this valued annual event. Meanwhile, young sports enthusiasts in Chirnside will benefit from £500 towards an all-weather games area at the primary school.

The funding will also support youth development, with environmental charity ‘Sea the Change’ awarded £10,000 to roll out cycling workshops and maintenance sessions throughout the area.

A £2,500 grant to Eyemouth Scout Group will help ensure their summer camp remains affordable and accessible to all, promoting health, independence and confidence through active travel and outdoor learning.

Finally, a £3,500 grant to Borders Youth Theatre will help strengthen community ties in Cockburnspath & Cove, bringing generations together through shared creative experiences in drama and performance.

Trevor Warn, Chair of the Drone Hill Fund Panel, said:

“The Panel had the privilege of deliberating and agreeing on funding for this wide range of projects during the spring meeting. Whether it’s one-off projects or longer-term capital investments, the funds make a massive difference in both youth development and generational integration across the Fund area. In addition, the ability to allocate funds for the replacement of community-based infrastructure and equipment means that Community activities of all sorts can be supported well into the future.”

Niome Lucjan, Community Funds Adviser at Foundation Scotland, said:

"The Drone Hill Fund continues to support community activity across the area. This funding will improve facilities, create new opportunities for residents of all ages, and strengthen local connections."

The next funding deadline is 1st September 2025.
