About this fund
Barrhill Greener Homes supports residents across the Community Council area to explore energy saving upgrades such as insulation, solar panels and heat pumps. Upgrades are available for free or at a fraction of the usual cost, depending on funding and eligibility.
With the support of ScottishPower, Hubbub (the environmental charity) and our new Community Project Manager Fiona, we’ll provide practical advice, home surveys and guidance on funding options to help as many residents as possible take part.
The project has been created by Barrhill CIC, Barrhill Development Trust and the Community Council to make good use of the Community Benefit Fund - helping residents access improvements that make homes warmer, more efficient and ready for the future.
The fund is provided by Barrhill Community Interest Company, using funds from ScottishPower Renewables and the Kilgallioch Community Benefit Company linked to the Mark Hill and Kilgallioch windfarms.
Grants of up to £20,000 per household are available for energy efficiency and renewable measures.

How it works
- You can register your interest in the scheme by filling in a very short form either online at www.bcic.org.uk/barrhill-greener-homes or picking up a paper copy available from the shop or the hall.
- Depending upon your circumstances you may be eligible for ECO 4 funding. In which case Scottish Power will take on your journey.
- For those ineligible for ECO 4, you’ll be offered a free comprehensive home survey which will provide you with information about what measures are appropriate for your home.
- Depending upon the outcome of the survey and what measures you are interested in, your Community Project Manager (fiona@barrhilldevtrust.org) can talk you through the funding available through Home Energy Scotland and BCIC and help you to make appropriate applications
- Once you have confirmation that your application/s for funding have been successful, you can arrange an installation date with your preferred contractor.
- On completion of works and having received your new Energy Performance Certificate, you can claim your payments from BCIC
