About this fund

Caithness Futures Maternity Grants are supported by RWE’s Caithness Futures community fund, through the Camster II Wind Farm. You can read about the main fund and how it supports organisations in Caithness here.

Purpose of this fund

Caithness Futures will introduce a modest individual grant of £250 available to all pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy on evidence of residency and production of a Mat B1 form. The aim of this is to reduce the financial burden of travelling to Inverness for maternity services.

The grant is to help with the cost of (for example) travel to Inverness for maternity services, accommodation if required, childcare for older children or other concerns that an expectant mother may be able to alleviate through this small grant.

Who can apply?

An individual grant of £250 will be available on evidence of residency (in the form of your Council Tax Notice) and your Mat B1 form. If you don’t have a Council Tax Notice please contact us. This grant is limited to women who are resident in Caithness. We will contact people receiving grants in the months following an award to ask how the money helped and what is was used for.

What can’t be funded?

The grant should be used to support you in your last trimester of pregnancy and with planning around the birth or helping with early care costs. Whilst the primary purpose of this fund has been designed around helping with the need to travel to Inverness for maternity care, you might decide the grant differently. This might be buying equipment, clothes or nappies for the baby, paying for an antenatal class, buying pregnancy vitamins or healthy food – whatever you identify as providing you with financial support in relation to getting ready for the baby (or babies) arriving. We will ask you how you used your grant so we can find out how effective this new fund is and whether this pilot will be continued.

How are decisions made?

Applications are processed by Foundation Scotland on the basis of meeting the eligibility criteria. Caithness Futures Panel is a group of volunteers making decisions on the wider funding strategy and will assist with the Caithness Futures Maternity Grants as required.
