Supporting young people across Scotland
A variety of projects that improve opportunities for young people across Scotland have received funding from The Bairdwatson Charitable Trust.
The Bairdwatson Charitable Trust provides grants to registered charities in Scotland for work focused on employment and skills training for young people who are unemployed and re-training to get them back into work. In addition to charities, the Trust may also consider funding social enterprises and similar community organisations that carry out charitable work.
The Bairdwatson Charitable Trust is proud to continue its commitment to improving opportunities for young people across Scotland. In the last round of awards, the Trustees have awarded funding to ten organisations dedicated to delivering employability support for disadvantaged young people, with a total of £174,534 granted.
These organisations are working hard to break down barriers, open doors to training and employment, and give young people the tools, confidence, skills, experience and support they need to thrive in the world of work.
Here are just a few of the inspiring initiatives the Trust is currently supporting
Bridgend Farmhouse
To contribute towards the costs of sessional staff to deliver the ‘From Kitchen to Café to Career: Building Confidence and Skills for Life’ project for disadvantaged young people in Edinburgh. This project aims to provide a start in the hospitality industry.
Claire Wheeler, Bridgend Farmhouse General Manager says
"We are delighted to be receiving funding from the Bairdwatson Charitable Trust Fund. This is enabling us to enhance the training and support available to young people who are engaged in our skills development programme in out training kitchen and cafe."
Eric Fernandez-Baca, Bridgend Farmhouse Food Coordinator says
"I'm already seeing a difference in the young people as a result of the extra staff support. The provision of one-to-one support for some of our young people has been critical in improving their skills and knowledge. This is transformational for them and it has been lovely to see how - even in a short space of time - they have been gaining confidence far more quickly than before"
Getting Better Together Ltd
To contribute to an employability and skills training programme in North Lanarkshire focusing on cycle mechanics training for up to 50 disadvantaged young, unemployed individuals in Shotts, helping them to access positive future pathways.
Articulate Cultural Trust
To contribute to the cost of delivering a six-week music and employability programme, in Glasgow, called Track. Track offers trainings and opportunities to care experienced young people, helping them to gain the confidence to work in the arts.
Growing2gether
To contribute to running the Growing2gether Nursery Mentoring Programme for disengaged young people 14 to 16 at Inverness Academy, Dingwall Academy and Lochside Academy in Aberdeen, helping them to learn and develop employability skills within the education sector. The programme leads to a nationally recognised SCQF Level 4 Qualification in Personal Development, supported by the University of the Highlands and Islands.
