Events team lend a hand at spring litter pick!

28 April 2014

Volunteers rallied at Glen Nevis this weekend to take part in the Spring Litter Sweep and Curling Pond Tidy Up, organised P1000252by community conservation charity, Friends of Nevis.

Individuals, friends and families helped pick litter and tidy up local paths and walkways to ensure the iconic Ben Nevis area remains a stunning attraction for local residents and tourists to enjoy.

Local volunteers were joined by Foundation Scotland’s Events team who organise the Caledonian Challenge, an outdoor charity trek which sees participants walk 54 miles in 24 hours; from Gairlochy north of Fort William to Strathfillan.

Head of Foundation Scotland Events, Fraser Lennox said, “We had a brilliant time on Sunday helping out at the Spring Litter Sweep. Not only did we enjoy a great afternoon in the sunshine getting to know local volunteers, but helped contribute towards maintaining and preserving the majestic Nevis environment, which boasts some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery - it was a real pleasure.”

Friends of Nevis volunteers have supported teams at registration on the Caledonian Challenge for several years; since 2010 the group has been awarded grants worth £4900 for their endeavour.

The Caledonian Challenge takes place on 14/15 June.
