Training fund available for Thornton residents

07 February 2018

Middle Balbeggie Education and Training Fund is offering financial support to Thornton residents looking to access further education and training opportunities.

Awards of up to £500 are available and can cover a range of costs including course fees, travel, subsistence or childcare.

Successful applicant Emily Watson, said: “This grant will make a huge difference to me. I am going to commence work on my dissertation and as a result I will incur additional travel costs. I no longer need to worry about how I will meet this additional expense, and I can concentrate on my studies rather than work additional hours. Not only that, it gives me a degree of independence, rather than relying on my mum and dad to provide the support who themselves have lots of other financial demands.”

Rachel Searle-Mbullu, Head of Communities, Foundation Scotland, added “Money is a barrier for many attending further education or additional training courses, and we hope this this fund can support many more young people by removing this barrier. The Fund will support those living in Thornton who wish to either attend further education or access further training to increase their skills. It doesn’t matter which course you want to do, the key is that you are committed to improving your skills and knowledge and in turn, your prospects. This might be a two day practical course or something longer.”
