Twelve community groups and charities in Annandale and Nithsdale are celebrating success in the latest funding round from the Annandale and Nithsdale Community Benefit Company (ANCBC).

A total of £120,000 has been awarded to support the rural regeneration and sustainability of local communities in the area.

The latest awards include a £20,000 grant to Nith Inshore Rescue to contribute towards the costs of refitting the St John Lifeboat, and the purchase of equipment to ensure that the lifeboat is fit for purpose for the next ten years.

£6,000 was awarded to Dumfries and Galloway Care Trust to support a new polytunnel project, aimed at providing support to adults with learning disabilities, and the wider community.

£20,000 was awarded to the Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum, who will use the funding to  help restore the WW2 control tower, which is the centrepiece of the building, and £2,000 was awarded to Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust to deliver the Book Explorers project in Lochside.

Natasha Kinsella, Creative Programme Manager at the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust said,

At Moat Brae, our vision is for children to be empowered by books. We are so excited to bring bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator Morag Hood to North West Community Campus nursery in Lochside to experiment with ways to engage the youngest children with books. This will help inspire the children, and develop their confidence and creativity, especially since they will hear how their experiences will help more and more children grow a love of reading.

The ANCBC fund began grant making in 2015 and since then has awarded over £2 million to projects across the 42 community council areas that make up its area of benefit. Funding decisions are made by a volunteer board of local people, and the ANCBC funds are administered by Foundation Scotland.

Constituted community groups and charities can still apply for funding, with the next deadlines for applications being Friday 1st December 2023 and then Friday 15th March 2024.
