About this fund

The Fund is provided by Barrhill Community Interest Company using funds from the Kilgallioch Community Benefit Company and ScottishPower Renewables Mark Hill wind farm. 

Currently, two types of grants are available:

Small grants: £500 - £5,000
Large grants: £5,001 and above

Micro grants of up to £500 can be obtained from the Community Council.

Community Energy grants (formerly Winter Fuel) have also been provided annually by Barrhill Community Interest Company using funds from the Kilgallioch Community Benefit Company and ScottishPower Renewables Mark Hill wind farm. More information on the Winter 2024 grants will be available in October.

The Fund also makes bursaries to individuals for education and training. You can read more about those here.

Purpose of this fund

The fund will support positive change by investing in a wide range of inspirational, community-led activity that is strategic, positive and creative and helps create a legacy of lasting impact. The fund will do this by making grants to support the costs of relevant projects, services and facilities.

Who can apply?

Groups and organisations working to benefit people in any of the three communities can apply. You don’t need to be a registered charity to apply, but your group/organisation must meet the standard eligibility criteria.

Applications from groups/organisations located outwith the fund area must demonstrate a clear benefit for residents within the fund area.

The Community Energy/Winter Fuel grant is available to all eligible households in the Barrhill Community Council area, where the Barrhill property is the main permanent residence of the individual applying. One application can be made per eligible household.

What can’t be funded?

Information on what the fund (in relation to group grants) cannot support is provided here.

In relation to the Community Energy/Winter Fuel grant scheme the following are excluded:

  • Properties which are wholly commercial
  • Second homes
  • Holiday lets

How are decisions made?

The Directors of the Barrhill Community Interest Company ,who are people who live in the community, makes decisions on grant awards from the fund. The CIC determines overall fund strategy and is governed by its Articles of Association.

The Board currently meets monthly on the third Wednesday of the month.
