About this fund

The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Community Fund (Anstruther) supports community projects benefitting those living in the Royal Burghs of Kilrenny, Anstruther and Cellardyke Community Council area.

For the first three years (2025-2028) an annual amount of £10,800 (rising in line with inflation) for the Anstruther area is donated by NnG, a joint venture between EDF power solutions UK and ESB, which own the NnG offshore wind farm. The Fund is expected to last for 25 years, the anticipated initial lifetime of the wind farm, with amounts available in each area subject to review in 2028.

Please note: The Fund for Anstruther is part of the wider NnG Community Benefit Fund which began in late 2025. Over the first 3 years, the wider NnG Community Fund will also be supporting charitable activity benefiting four other Community Council areas along the Fife coast (Elie and Royal Burgh of Earlsferry; St Monans and Abercrombie; Royal Burgh of Pittenweem and District; and Royal Burgh of Crail and District), five Community Council areas along the Berwickshire coast (Cockburnspath & Cove, Coldingham, St Abbs, Eyemouth and Burnmouth), and the East Lammermuir Community Council area in East Lothian. See our main Fund Page for further details about Fund arrangements in each area.

The amounts available in each area have been apportioned based on recognising communities most impacted during construction, as well as those affected by ongoing operations (such as from the impacts on marine navigation and visually). 68% (£183,600 in year 1) will be for the East Lammermuir community, 20% (£54,000) for the five Fife communities listed above, and the remaining 12% (£32,400) for the five East Berwickshire communities. The Fund's overall area of benefit, percentage allocations between areas, and Fund arrangements will be reviewed in 2028.

Purpose of this fund

The Fund will support charitable activities improving the Royal Burgh of Kilrenny, Anstruther & Cellardyke’s community life and the  facilities, services, environment, activities and opportunities, making the area a friendly, welcoming and sustainable place to live in and visit.

Grants of between £1,000 and £3,000 are available for projects or activities lasting up to 1 year.

Additional criteria

In addition to demonstrating clear delivery of the purpose above, groups are encouraged to also take into consideration the following additional criteria.

  • Local consultation and support: Groups should show that they have consulted within the community or involved an appropriate number of the intended beneficiaries of the project and can demonstrate local support or demand for the proposed project/activities.
  • Match funding: Grants can cover 100% of project costs, but preference is given to projects demonstrating other funding to cover a proportion of the project costs.
  • Care for our environment: Groups demonstrating efforts to minimise the environmental impact of projects and reduce their ‘carbon footprint’, or maximise the positive environmental effects of their project, will be looked on more favourably

Who can apply?

Community groups and organisations working to benefit people in the Royal Burghs of Kilrenny, Anstruther and Cellardyke and which meet our standard eligibility criteria can apply.

Applicants must have a constitution and be set up on a not-for-profit basis. They do not need to be a registered charity but the activity or project they are requesting funding for must be charitable/for community benefit. Applications from groups/organisations located out with the Anstruther area will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and must demonstrate clear benefits for residents within the Fund area, and evidence of engagement with (and support from) the Kilrenny, Anstruther and Cellardyke community.

What can’t be funded?

Information on what the Fund cannot support is provided here.

How are decisions made?

A Panel made up of people who serve on the Royal Burgh of Kilrenny Anstruther and Cellardyke Community Council will make recommendations on grant awards from the Fund. The Panel will be made up of a minimum of four and a maximum of eight members.

Each Panel member typically serves a minimum of one and a maximum of three years, with members retiring on a phased basis to ensure knowledge and expertise are retained.

Minutes of Panel meetings are available on request (see contact details below). More information on the decision process can be found here.
