About this fund

The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Community Benefit Fund (Pittenweem) supports community projects benefitting those living in the Royal Burgh of Pittenweem and District Community Council area.

For the first three years (2025-2028) an annual amount of £10,800 (rising in line with inflation) for the Pittenweem area is donated by NnG, a joint venture between EDF power solutions UK and ESB, which own the NnG offshore wind farm. The Fund is expected to last for 25 years, the anticipated initial lifetime of the wind farm, with amounts available in each area subject to review in 2028.

Please note: The Fund for Pittenweem is part of the wider NnG Community Fund which began in late 2025. Over the first 3 years, the wider NnG Community Benefit Fund will also be supporting charitable activity benefiting four other Community Council areas along the Fife coast (Elie and Royal Burgh of Earlsferry; St Monans and Abercrombie; Royal Burghs of Kilrenny, Anstruther and of Cellardyke; and Royal Burgh of Crail and District), five Community Council areas along the Berwickshire coast (Cockburnspath & Cove, Coldingham, St Abbs, Eyemouth and Burnmouth), and the East Lammermuir Community Council area in East Lothian. See our main NnG Community Fund Page for further details about Fund arrangements in each area.

The amounts available in each area have been apportioned based on recognising communities most impacted during construction, as well as those affected by ongoing operations (such as from the impacts on marine navigation and visually). 68% (£183,600 in year 1) will be for the East Lammermuir community, 20% (£54,000) for the five Fife communities listed above, and the remaining 12% (£32,400) for the five East Berwickshire communities. The Fund's overall area of benefit, percentage allocations between areas, and Fund arrangements will be reviewed in 2028.

Purpose of this fund

The Fund will support charitable activities improving community life in the Royal Burgh of Pittenweem and District for current and future generations

Additional criteria

Groups may apply for Standard Grants of between £500 - £1,500 for projects/activities lasting up to 1 year.

Recognising that multi-year grants can give groups added reassurance, flexibility, reduced fundraising costs/administration and can result in bigger impact, the Fund will consider Multi-year Grants for up to 3 years funding totalling £4,500 (ie. up to £1,500 per annum).

Who can apply?

Community groups and organisations working to benefit people in the Royal Burgh of Pittenweem and District and which meet our standard eligibility criteria can apply.

Applicants must have a constitution and be set up on a not-for-profit basis. They do not need to be a registered charity but the activity or project they are requesting funding for must be charitable/for community benefit.

Applications from groups/organisations located out with the Pittenweem area will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must demonstrate clear benefits for residents within the Fund area, and evidence of engagement with (and support from) the Pittenweem community.

What can’t be funded?

Information on what the Fund cannot support is provided here.

How are decisions made?

A Community Panel made up of people who live, work, or volunteer in the Pittenweem area makes recommendations on grant awards from the Fund.  The Panel advises on overall Fund strategy and is governed by a Terms of Reference.

The Panel of up to seven members includes a mixture of community councillors and other members of the community:

  • Two Community Council representatives, appointed directly by the Community Council.
  • Five ‘wider community’ representatives selected through an open and transparent process.

Each Panel member typically serves a minimum of one and a maximum of three years, with members retiring on a phased basis to ensure knowledge and expertise are retained. Opportunities to become a Panel member are openly advertised, both locally and on this website.

We are recruiting for Panel Members. If you live in the Pittenweem area and have an interest in local community issues and activities, please see more details and fill in the application form here: NnG (Pittenweem) Community Fund Panel  (deadline 15 April 2026)

Minutes of Panel meetings are available on request (see contact details below).
