Platform for Dialogue
A wealth of experience is building up within Scotland’s communities about implementing community benefit arrangements, particularly from renewables. Foundation Scotland seeks opportunities to share practice and learning and provide a platform for discussion between communities, developers and other stakeholders with an interest in achieving impact from community benefit funds.
Some areas face particular challenges and opportunities with community funds. Some simply have an abundance of practice to share and celebrate. Foundation Scotland can organise local, regional or national events to help ensure current practice is shared, debated and refined. Read the report from Foundation Scotland’s 2012 Highland seminar organised in conjunction with Key Commercial Services, Development Trusts Association Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Social Enterprise Academy and Community Energy Scotland.
Foundation Scotland convenes short- life working groups, involving a wide range of people and organisations, to progress particular policy or practice issues affecting community funds. In 2013 we are convening a working group to consider minimum standards in establishing and operating community funds. Further information on this will be available shortly.
Panel members quickly build up their expertise in grant making. They also learn to navigate their role as a decision maker for funding alongside being an active member of their community. New Panels can benefit from the experience of peers, and in our experience many are keen to share their learning. We can bring Panels together to optimise this.
